About The Founder
Quackenworth founder and CEO David Hollaway has been the driving creative force behind the company’s success.
Since founding the company in 2005, he has written and illustrated sixteen different children’s books including the
Quigley McCormick series, the Remix series, Ray Jay and the Grumpy Tree, the Witty Bitty Bunch series, and Vowel Stories for Beginning Readers. Under David’s leadership Quackenworth has gone from one book to over one hundred different educational products, including numerous math and writing curriculums, audio books, digital books, educational games, and Android/iOS applications. He is also the creator/designer of the web sites MyWritingWizard.com and Schoollance.com.
David Hollaway’s dislike of reading and writing as a child served as the primary motivating factor for the founding of Quackenworth. From the company’s inception he decided that the products that Quackenworth created would follow a simple premise: make learning fun.

Prior to Quackenworth, David spent three years at a Los Angeles-area digital encryption company where he served in senior management working on corporate and product strategy. As part of his role, David led an engineering/product design team and contributed to the company’s strategic consumer market initiatives. Early in his career he served as an educator in the Los Angeles area in elementary and secondary education. David has also worked in sales for RJR Nabisco and Pfizer.

David is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, has an MA in computer-based education from CSU Dominguez Hills, and an MBA in finance from Loyola Marymount University. David’s hobbies include reading, playing video games, traveling, and watching college football. He spends much of his free time mentoring and encouraging children. His community service includes his post as president of the Leimert Park Chargers, a youth football organization in Los Angeles, CA.
Fun Facts
  • The name “Quackenworth” is a combination of the name “Quackenbush,” and “Slugworth,” a devious character in one of David’s favorite children’s books, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He combined the “Quacken” from “Quackenbush” with the “worth” from “Slugworth” to form the name “Quackenworth.”

  • David’s first project, the Quigley McCormick book series, had humble beginnings. It started as one, twenty-page picture book. But while writing the story, David realized he had a lot more to say about the characters and the town of Buckletuckle. Soon the story ballooned into three, 200 plus page chapter books.
